In the last decade, technology has finally caught up to make it possible to watch smooth streaming media not only on your laptop, but on your tablet and smart phone too. People have always loved videos/films, but now it’s much more than just a Saturday at the movies. Now video is part of how we communicate everywhere. On your website. On social media like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google +. On your blog. In your email newsletter. On YouTube, the biggest search engine in the world (even bigger than Google!).
And that’s one of the most beautiful things about video: it’s one asset that you can get multiple bounces out of. This represents serious leverage for your business in your marketing strategies.
You can upload videos to multiple online platforms like YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Google+, your Blog, even review sites like Yelp. And the list of where you can use videos online keeps expanding. Virtually anywhere you can be on the internet, you will be able to post videos very soon.
Another thing we love about video is that it reaches out and grabs people and engages them like nothing else. When people start watching a 1-minute video, they get engaged and usually watch it until the end of the video. How many times do you think people stop reading an article or blog post before the 1-minute mark? Much more often. People just don’t want to read anymore. They want to be entertained. That’s what video does so well.
Not only does video help engage human beings better than the written word, it also helps your search engine results better than written content. (For instance, when you type something into Google, the list of websites that comes up are your “search engine results”. We’re talking about ranking higher on this list so people will find you online when they’re searching for your services.)
Search engines notice when someone stays on a website longer. Videos on your website ensure that your visitors are staying on your website longer, and that will make your website rank higher in search engine results.
But you might be saying to yourself, “I don’t really want to do all this marketing on the internet. Why does this have to be so hard?” You’re not alone. Internet marketing IS a big hairy beast and it can be daunting to get started.
